Carlos Averhoff Jr. & IRESI “Curtain Call” at The Regattabar
Medici Musica presents virtuoso Cuban saxophonist Carlos Averhoff, Jr & IRESI Project in a one-time concert, with album cast Cuban drummer Francisco Mela, John Lockwood on Bass, and special guest and Grammy-nominee Pianist Manuel Valera at The Regattabar on July 14th, 2016.
Iresi masterfully weaves hard hitting jazz compositions with infectious Cuban rhythms creating an amalgam of polyrhythm’s and savory melodies that are rich with cultural influences deeply rooted in tradition. All About Jazz awarded Iresi 4 stars describing Carlos as “a dynamic fresh new voice on the saxophone” and Latin Jazz Network portrays his playing as “quite extraordinarily expressive and beautiful,” further adding, “Carlos Averhoff Jr is a musician who is renowned as a virtuoso soloist.”
Of the album title, Averhoff explains: “Iresi is a Yoruba word that means the light of your soul; the lucky star on your shoulder; the innate energy within. May this music bring us all Iresi.”
Carlos Averhoff, Jr is a native Cuban saxophonist, artist of Greg Osby’s Inner Circle Music Jazz Label, composer and educator at Berklee College and New England Conservatory Preparatory School. His music offers a new hybrid sound of Cuban influenced Jazz. He has collaborated with Jazz legendary drummers Louis Hayes, Jimmy Cobb, Bob Moses; Cuban drummer Horacio El Negro Hernandez, pianist Jason Moran; saxophonists Dave Liebman, Bill Pierce, Greg Osby, among other Jazz icons.
